The Breed Heritage

The Korthals Griffon

The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon (or Korthals Griffon) was developed in the late 1800s by Eduard Korthals.

They aren't the fastest in the field, nor the flashiest at the show, but they are the most relentless. Often called the '4x4 of Bird Dogs,' the Griffon is built for endurance. Their webbed paws make them powerful swimmers, and their dense, water-resistant double coat acts as natural armor against thorns, burrs, and icy temperatures. Whether it's upland trail or deep swamp, a Griffon doesn't just participate—they dominate.

The Verse of the Griffon

Paw-etry & Prose

"Through thicket deep and bramble torn,
A wire-haired soul, a hunter born.
I hold the point, I scent the air,
With whiskers grey and focused stare."

— The Point

"A twitching paw, a muffled bark,
I chase the shadows through the dark.
In dreams, the tennis balls are gold,
And tales of ancient treats are told."

— Midnight Zoomies

"Water drips from bearded chin,
A muddy grin, a wagging win.
To be a dog is truly grand,
The king of all the backyard land."

— Bearded Joy

"I watch the door, I know the sound,
Of heavy footsteps on the ground.
No matter where the day has been,
You're home, my best and only friend."

— The Return

The Philosophy of the Nap

The sun has found a square of rug,
A patch of golden heat.
I’ve circled thrice to settle down
And tuck my heavy feet.

My paws are running in my sleep,
I’m chasing phantom hares,
I’m barking at the mailman
Who is never really there.

I dream of fields and endless sticks,
But even in my head,
I’m mostly dreaming of the time
You’ll let me on the bed.
